Medication Costs

It’s often challenging to predict insurance coverage for specific medications. To estimate your out-of-pocket expenses, we recommend checking prices on GoodRx (or a similar discount site).

When looking up medications, here are the names and typical doses of commonly used medicines:

  • Testosterone cypionate (a 1ml vial typically lasts 2-4 weeks)
  • Estradiol tablets (typical dose is 2-6mg per day)
  • Estradiol patches (typical dose is 0.025-0.1mg/day, applied twice weekly)
  • Estradiol valerate injections (a 5ml vial typically lasts 2-3 months)
  • Spironolactone (typical dose is 200mg per day)
  • Bicalutamide (typical dose is 50mg per day)
  • Progesterone (typical dose is 100mg per day)

Insurance

Some important notes:

  1. Verify your annual deductible, as you might be charged the full price even if we accept your plan.
  2. It’s wise to call your insurance and confirm if Dr. Isabel Lowell is in-network, particularly for Blue Cross.
  3. Even if we don’t accept your insurance, your plan may still cover labwork and/or medications.
