Adam A. Sauceda, MA, LPC-S, RPT

Adam (he/she/they) is the owner of Synchronicity Counseling, PLLC.  Adam is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist who has over 20 years of experience working in the mental health field. Adam has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling (CACREP accredited) from the University of Northern Iowa.  Adam has completed the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Global Education Initiative (GEI) Certification and routinely follows the Standards of Care in his clinical practice.  Adam has provided gender affirmative trainings to mental health professionals and has provided expert witness testimony in court proceedings specific to gender diversity.

Adam's main clinical focus has been providing gender affirmative care to individuals who are exploring their gender or who are trans and/or gender diverse (TGD), and their families. Adam is able to assist people with navigating their gender journey by providing a safe space to explore gender expression and gender identity.  Their work often consists of helping people with social anxiety, depression, minority stress, trauma, and gender dysphoria.  Adam often works with each individual to help them build on their strengths, facilitate an authentic sense of self, alleviate gender distress, build resilience, improve communication abilities, and secure social supports.  Adam also integrates complementary methodologies including cognitive behavioral strategies and experiential activities to create a new, healthy narrative regarding gender diversity.  This integration often helps people move from a place of shame and stigma to a place of empowerment and pride.

Adam utilizes a systemic approach when working with children, adolescents, and families.  Parents and loved ones are often concerned with their TGD loved one's safety, happiness, and health.  Utilizing a systems approach allows for loved ones of TGD people to share their fears and concerns while also learning about local and national resources so they can better advocate for their TGD loved one in various environments.  Some common examples are supporting TGD people through the process of sharing their authentic gender with extended family members,  navigating the school system in regards to name, pronoun, and bathroom use, and processing feelings about exploring the possibility of accessing gender affirming medical care.

Adam is able to complete a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, which includes a gender history, to assist with the process of achieving a name and gender marker change on identifying documentation or to provide a referral letter/letter of support for gender affirming medical care, i.e. hormone therapy or gender affirming surgeries.

Adam enjoys spending free time playing beach volleyball, traveling with family to new places, playing board games, and fashion.
