Loudoun County School Board reschedules vote on transgender policy

Loudoun Va. – (PT) The Loudoun County School Board has rescheduled the vote on transgender student policy until Wednesday. This decision came after listening to four hours of testimony Tuesday from those who support and are against transgender student rights.

The School Board meeting will reconvene at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, at the LCPS Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court, Ashburn. The School Board will consider the Action and Information items on its agenda.

Tuesday’s meeting was highly regulated due to Covid concerns and a previous meeting when Anti-trans racists were arrested at a previous School Board Meeting.

Virginia law requires that each school board shall adopt policies that are consistent with but may be more comprehensive than the model policies developed by the Department of Education that states:

“Every Virginia student, regardless of their gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation, has a right to learn free from discrimination and harassment.”

The guidelines state that transgender children should be allowed to use restrooms that align with their gender expressions.

Transgender students must be able to expect that their gender pronouns be respected by school staff.

School sports are not addressed by state law and are not on the agenda for the vote on Wednesday.
